About us

CIAID is an engineering research and development (R&D) center established by expert professionals in computational engineering, computer science, data science, business intelligence, industrial automation, energy efficiency and project management. It replicates in Colombia international R&D centers in engineering, with the purpose of investigating local problems and developing our technology to satisfy the particular needs of our society.

CIAID applies scientific and technological knowledge in the economic, government and civil sectors, complementing business management with innovation and technological development.

CIAID has a research group in Minciencias, which becomes the framework for scientific projects. Currently, CIAID members have published more than ten scientific articles in high-level international academic journals.

We seek to transform engineering at a regional level, willing to become leaders in advanced engineering and Industry 4.0 projects in Latin America.

Our services provide solutions to society's problems by applying scientific, technological and organizational knowledge. For this purpose, we develop R + D + i projects implementing automation; energy analysis and optimization in industry and architecture; Business Intelligence, high performance computer simulation; processing and analysis of large volumes of data (BigData); and contemporary organizational schemes.

Valeria Garzón Rubiano, MBA.

CEO

MBA, specialist in International Business and Finance, Mechanical Engineer. Expertise in business management, project management and consulting in enterprise transformation programs for the sustainability of organizations, with national and international scope. With experience in the development of projects in the public and private sectors; technical, financial and administrative auditing in the implementation of technological solutions; structuring of business models; definition of sector strategies; design, implementation and auditing of HSEQ management systems; and design of shared services centers.

Scientific Direction

Doctor in Engineering with more than 7 years of experience in planning and executing research and development projects. Primarily in the areas of computational engineering, applied mathematics and high-performance scientific computing (Supercomputing). He has worked as a researcher in European research centers, such as the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) and the Heat and Mass Transfer Technology Center (CTTC). In these centers, the research and development projects have been performed using supercomputing. His main lines of research are finite element stabilization, parallel computing distribution, and mathematical applications in engineering and science.

Lorena Salazar Llano, PhD-MSc.

Sustainable Development

Architect with emphasis on research in the areas of urban planning and sustainable development, with extensive experience in the formulation of indicators for the measurement of sustainability in urban areas. Ph.D. in sustainability, master's degrees in sustainable architecture and sustainability. Educational experience in the areas of undergraduate projects and research seminars. Data scientist.

Juan Guillermo García Navarro, PhD-MSc.

Research, Development and Innovation

Doctor in Engineering and aeronautical engineer. He owns a master's degree in the area of fluid mechanics and energy efficiency. He has participated in the formulation and execution of research and development projects for low power wind generators and aerodynamic devices for the automobile industry. In addition, he has expertise in computer numerical control manufacturing and composite materials. His main lines of research are aerodynamics, fluid-structure interaction, and computational mechanics.

Ricardo Reyes Sotomayor, PhD.

Doctor in Civil Engineering and mechanical engineer. He is an expert in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), mathematical modeling, partial differential equation discretization methods, high-performance scientific computing, and data-driven reduced order models. His research lines are CFD, stabilization of variational problems, and reduced order models.

Alex Tello Guerra, PhD-MSc.

Research, Development and Innovation

PhD. in Structural Analysis and mechanical engineer. His experience lies in the area of mathematical modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and elastodynamics of solids. He has also developed extensive research in multiphysics problems, especially fluid-structure interaction and its optimization by means of order reduction methods.

Currently, he works as a senior data scientist developing various types of analysis (time series and classification algorithms) in which applies knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to make predictions that generate value in the industry.

Daniel García Lozano, PhD-MSc.

Doctor in Engineering with experience in the planning and implementation of research and development projects. Mainly in the area of computational mechanics applied to thermal and fluid sciences. His academic interests are, among others: Open Source, Programming, 3D Animation, Transport Phenomena, Fluid Mechanics, Bio-inspired Multiobjective Optimization, Topological Optimization, turbulent flows, FSI phenomena, and isogeometric analysis.

PhD. in Structural Analysis, master in science and mechanical engineer. His experience lies in the area of mathematical modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and non-newtonian fluids.

Karol Cascavita Mellado, PhD-MSc.

Edgar Patiño, PhD-MSc.

Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, master's at Engineering - Materials and Manufacturing Process from Universidad Nacional de Colombia - Bogotá (2012) and Ph.D. in Engineering from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2017). He has experience in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on computational mechanics, acting on the following subjects: smoothed particle hydrodynamics, meshless and microfluidic devices.

Cristian Ramírez Vargas, MSc.

Civil Engineer, Candidate to Master in Engineering, with studies in analysis and structural design. More than 5 years of experience as a structural designer of buildings, bridges, retaining walls and foundation slabs. Developer of computer programs to analyze, model, design and generate automatic reports of structures in Python, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Teaching experience at the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

Juan Rolón Ríos, MSc.

Research, Development and Innovation

Mechanical engineer, with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. His expertise lies in the application and analysis of renewable energy projects, especially in low and high-power wind energy. Also, he owns full time experience in mechanical, industrial, environmental and aeronautical engineering programs; management of research projects in wind energy and bioplastics; computational simulation of multi-physics, programming and data analysis; preparation of basic documents for accreditation and registration of academic programs.


Giovanny Baron Cangrejo

Chemist with knowledge in product development, instrumental chemical analysis and food chemistry. Experienced in the development of biodegradable products for food packaging, physicochemical analysis of materials, process analysis, creation of formats, forms and business minutes and research, design of proposals, and elaboration of methodologies for research.

Luis Gustavo Maldonado Archila

Data analyst with experience in maintenance processes for medical, telecommunications and petrochemical industries. Proficient in deploying machine learning and statistical modeling algorithms/techniques for identifying patterns and insights, and improving data culture in the organization. With a strong data oriented analytic personality, leadership skills and always a focus in automation and optimization of current process. Currently interested in projects improving abilities in machine learning, predictive modeling, and data visualizations.
